Winter Injury

Written By: Noreen

With winter weather comes the risk of injury to your trees.  Frost cracking is caused by sharp temperature changes.  Breakage from snow loads, salt injury, rodent and deer damage and dessication of evergreens can also occur.  Mulching and watering will help your plants overcome damage.  Proper pruning can help mitigate breakage and windbreaks can be erected to shield trees from damaging winds and salt spray.  Deer and rodent fencing are the most reliable method to keep the critters from munching on your prized trees and shrubs.
