Our friend Jessica DeMasio of Broccolo Tree and Lawncare enlisted the help of Walt Nelson of Cornell Cooperative Extension to try to confirm the infestation of several trees with EAB in areas not previously known to harbor EAB. Trees near Brighton High School, near the Clover Street and Calkins Road intersection and near Atlantic Avenue and Salt Roads in Penfield were found to have the signs and symptoms of EAB infestation: crown thinning, woodpecker damage, epicormic shoots near the base of the tree and D-shaped exit holes. This is further evidence that there is no need to wait to save one’s valuable ash tree, as EAB is prevalent throughout the area. Waiting until there are signs and symptoms is not necessary!
